More About the Course

This crazy world is placing increasing challenges in our way and it’s even more important to look after our mental as well as our physical health.   This is an evidence-based course drawing on solid research in neuroscience and psychotherapy and lovingly compiled by Heather Mason - The Minded Institute.   It has been taught and evaluated many times.  I have received specific training in teaching this course as part of my Yoga Therapy Diploma.

Crafted with tools and knowledge to support you in being your own best teacher and life-long supporter.  It offers a holding space for you to explore Yoga Therapy tools that can open doors to more resilient ways of being.

We will practice yoga-based movements, breath, sound, mindfulness & relaxation. Practice is the key word.  It’s the practice that creates and anchors changes in our nervous system and in our view of ourselves in the world.

Each week has a theme taking us on a rich journey which layers the learning about how to shift our nervous system from overload back into balance.

Including, regulating our breath, mindfulness of the body, understanding our emotional well-being through listening to our body, reducing rumination and adapting to the patterns of our mind to awaken more helpful ways of thinking and being.

It empowers us with psychoeducation.  So we understand the 'why' behind what we are doing.

Each session will include:

  • A short introduction to the weeks theme which is woven through each session
  • Yoga postures & sequences (with variations to suit different bodies) – 1 hr 10 mins
  • Breathing techniques
  • Relaxation
  • An activity exploring different Yoga or Mindfulness techniques
  • Time for sharing
  • Psychoeducation - the 'why'

The course is accompanied by a comprehensive manual with explanations of the practices and the underlying science for those who want more detail.  There are also weekly reflections and ideas for home practice.  Weekly audios are provided to support you on this journey.

The 8 week course is suitable for people experiencing stress, anxiety and depression. You don’t need any prior Yoga experience.

Once you have expressed an interest, I will arrange an initial phone call with you, so I can check that the course will meet your needs and give you a chance to ask any questions.  If you decide to go ahead, I will ask you to fill out an intake form. This is essential to ensure I can look after and support you during the 8 weeks.

The Benefits of a Mind-Body Approach

Research, as well as centuries of anecdotal evidence, point to the benefits of mindfulness and therapeutic yoga for helping stress, anxiety and depression.

We need an approach that invites wholeness, not separation.   If we fixate on just the mind, the body is constantly hijacking the progress we make with the mind.  If we focus on just the body and breath, we miss out on the minds ability to understand and appraise situations.  Working with both together and indeed our whole person, we create a natural synergy that can bring long-lasting transformation.
